Making its world debut in Prototype X concept form at the Detroit Motor Show in January, the production version will go on sale in the UK in early 2008. And buyers can expect it to be virtually identical to the car shown here. As with Evos of the past, it certainly doesn't lack wings, skirts or spoilers. But, unlike its predecessors, the Evo X has a more cohesive shape, with a bodykit which has been carefully crafted to suit the new Lancer's muscular lines.
A bold chrome-trimmed grille, shark-like headlights and deep bonnet air intake give plenty of front-end presence, and that's matched at the rear with a high spoiler and twin exhaust pipes.
Under the bonnet is a modified version of the current Evo's 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, offering in excess of 300bhp with improved torque and emissions. Revealed alongside the entire new Lancer range, which includes a five-door hatchback, the Evo X will be available only in four-door saloon form, and should cost £28,000.
