Top cop wants drug-drive help

Police warn of drug detection problems

A senior traffic cop has admitted officers are 'power­less' to stop drug-drivers, and that reliable tests capable of securing convic­tions are years away.

Chief Constable John Vine of Tayside Police in Scotland says forces need a device similar to the breath­alyser. The Home Office is developing roadside screening, but admits it is two years from being ready.
