Chevy shows some front

This may be the only shot we've got, but it's an early look at how Chevrolet's new Malibu is going to look

The US giant's new 2008-spec saloon will be launched at the Detroit Motor Show. The mid-size car has been given a redesign from the ground up in an effort to keep pace with US best-sellers such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. And the expo will give bosses the first chance to show not only the car, but the direction of future Chevys.

"The Malibu will represent the new face of the company, and will combine agility, attitude and new levels of refinement," said Ed Paper, Chevrolet's general manager. It's not only the outside that's benefited from the redesign treatment, as the car's interior has been given a striking two-tone presentation, which will be available on all models.

Chevy has also announced that its assembly plant in Kansas, US, is set to receive a massive £105million investment in readiness for the forthcoming Malibu. At a time of turmoil in the American car industry, Chevrolet's financial commitment will come as a welcome relief to the 3,000 workers at the factory.
