Cover scheme is better by miles

Pay-as-you-drive insurance policies are motoring off the shelf, claims one provider

The cover for low-mileage drivers relies on a GPS system to measure usage. Insurer Norwich Union fitted 100,000 black boxes last year, and believes 2007 will see a rise in popularity.

And it's not only the cost savings that are proving to be of benefit. "It's already helped us catch a thief by mapping recent journeys," said an NU spokesman.
