Dramatic vertical tailgate sets Nissan’s bold new Bevel apart
15th January 2007
The Japanese maker describes its stunning show star as a "dynamic, multi-purpose vehicle with a small size, big utility and fresh thinking". It was unveiled at the
Detroit expo last week - a perfect opportunity to show off its many striking design cues. The window line is one of the few features of the Bevel which will be instantly familiar to Nissan fans. Incorporating a sharp reverse-angle C-pillar, the car retains a similar look to that of the Pathfinder off-roader, which Nissan has recently updated.
Most striking is the Bevel's rear end, with its bizarre vertical tailgate. Designed and built at Nissan's design studio in California, the show model introduces styling themes which are expected to be adapted for use on future production cars.
The Bevel made its debut on the stands alongside another newcomer that's much closer to the showroom: the Rogue. A larger version of the firm's new Qashqai family car, this machine has been penned specifically for the North American market - so we won't see it on sale in UK dealers.
