All-new NSX taking shape

Meet the car that's the spiritual successor to the famous NSX. Tipped to launch Honda's upmarket Acura brand in the UK, the new Advanced Sports Car Concept made its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show - and under the dramatic lines is a high-revving V10 engine.

While Honda remained tight-lipped about the car's expected performance, it did reveal that the machine will feature a revised version of the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive technology first seen on the latest Legend luxury saloon.

Unlike the mid-engined NSX, the show model is being described as a front-engined grand tourer - but that doesn't mean it is abandoning all links with its famous predecessor. Penned in Los Angeles, the Advanced Sports Car Concept retains much of the subtle styling associated with the original NSX.

The slim, LED headlights are pushed wide and designed to mimic the supercar's pop-up lamps. Other neat touches include modern wraparound tail-lights and an all-black cockpit.

The Advanced Sports Car Concept has a carbon fibre underbody, and its aggressive look is completed by quad exhaust pipes. Development of the model is top secret, but it's expected to go on sale by 2009, and is likely to appear in pre-production form at October's Tokyo expo.
