The Audi Allroad rival was caught by the mag's spies in a car park in Sweden. Styling features include a pronounced grille and front bumper, neat spotlights with silver surrounds, plus a bold skid plate that protects the engine.
Plastic cladding, extended wheelarches and sporty roof rails mark the XC70 out in profile, while V70 tail-lights stretch up to the roof.
Under the skin, the XC70 shares its chassis with the S80, and will get the same engines - including a D5 diesel and 3.2-litre six-cylinder petrol, although not the firm's V8. Four-wheel drive and raised suspension give it considerable off-road ability. A starting price of around £27,000 is likely. And the XC70 isn't the only off-roader in the firm's upcoming plans. Volvo executive Lex Kerssemakers revealed at Detroit that more crossover vehicles are on the way. "My job is to fill in some of the numbers between XC10 and XC90," he said.
