Emergency telephones along a main trunk road could be removed due to high costs and a lack of use, a council has warned.
Devon County Council, which provides the phones for the North Devon Link Road, said it shelled out £7,000 on rental and repair in 2006, but only £7.19 was spent on calls. Local councillors are being asked for their views on the devices being withdrawn.
