Overweight motorists are twice as likely to be killed or seriously injured in road accidents than lighter people, a survey by the RAC Foundation has revealed.
The group says fatter drivers have a higher risk of falling asleep at the wheel and don't get the full benefit of seatbelts and airbags, while larger occupants are harder to remove from crashed vehicles.
