Higher crash risk for heavy drivers

Drivers who are overweight are at risk

30th January 2007

Overweight motorists are twice as likely to be killed or seriously injured in road accidents than lighter people, a survey by the RAC Foundation has revealed.

The group says fatter drivers have a higher risk of falling asleep at the wheel and don't get the full benefit of seatbelts and airbags, while larger occupants are harder to remove from crashed vehicles.
