Cars tune in to concert sounds

Audio giant Dolby is bringing true cinema sound to in-car entertainment - and Land Rover's top-spec Freelander 2 is the first car to benefit

The surround-sound specialist's new 7.1 system comes via 14 Alpine speakers - comprising three up front, with the rest spaced throughout the vehicle - to give passengers the feeling of being at a concert.

The collaboration between Dolby and Alpine will allow drivers to hear a different instrument on each speaker, while the vocal track always comes from the front of the car.
