MPV in crash test rap

Chrysler has been criticised again for the 'shocking' performance of its popular Voyager people carrier in a crash test

08th February 2007

Safety organisation Euro NCAP attacked the brand for failing to improve the safety credentials of the model, after it achieved only two stars out of five for occupant protection, and none for pedestrian protection in crash assessments.

The car gained two stars when tested in 1999, and the safety body had wanted to see progress by now. But, it says, the Voyager has "again been awarded a poor score of two stars". In a swipe at the US brand, Euro NCAP boss Claes Tingvall explained: "I am shocked that the manufacturer has not been able to improve the safety of this MPV." But Chrysler hit back, with a spokesman claiming: "Since 1999, we have made significant enhancements to the Grand Voyager's occupant protection features."

In the latest round of Euro NCAP tests, the Chevrolet Captiva and VW Eos earned four stars, while Volvo's C30 won five.
