The British Medical Association and Irish Medical Organisation have joined up with Euro MPs to try to force providers to refuse cover for cars fitted with the bars.
A spokesman said: "There is no need for these additions, apart from on some agricultural vehicles. We believe the EU should put pressure on insurers to either increase premiums or refuse to cover vehicles which have non-factory-fitted bull bars."
