Finding your way

The latest sat-nav from Magellan will keep you on course

Whether you’re travelling in the car, out on your mountain bike, or even at sea, this is what you’ll need to find your way. It’s the Crossover GPS sat-nav system from Magellan.

The portable unit comes pre-loaded with street and off-road maps, and uses a 3D bird’s-eye view, which is easy to see on the 3.5-inch screen. The SmartDetour feature will help drivers avoid motorway hold-ups. There are more than two million points of interest stored in its memory, and detailed turn-by-turn instructions are given via voice and text prompts.

An optional Magellan TrafficKit (£69.99) adds icons that show traffic jams, accidents, road construction and lane reductions, and allows
drivers to be automatically re-routed around any incidents. If you want to go cross country, then take the sat-nav out of the car and strap it to the handlebars of your bike. All you have to do is enter the geographical locations of your start point and destination; there’s even a compass screen to ensure that you don’t get lost.

If you’re a boat owner, then check out the marine mode, which allows the kit to automatically change to nautical miles for distances and knots for speed. And adding to the device’s versatility, it’s also an integrated MP3 player and photo viewer.
