Official Vauxhall teaser shows glimpse of the all-new Vectra
01st March 2007
While the VXR8 will be the fastest addition to the Luton manufacturer's line-up this year, its Geneva Motor Show concept previews the replacement for the Vectra - the Insignia.
And this is a teaser of what to expect from the Ford Mondeo rival, as Vauxhall is promising a radical look to go with the fresh badge. The car outlined in this teaser image is a two-door, although we are told its styling points the way to four-door, five-door and estate variants. And while the brand currently has no plans to introduce a coupé - to replace the Calibra - a sporty version of the Insignia hasn't been ruled out in the future, either.
A new range of engines will include a 2.7-litre V6 diesel unit. Although VXR-badged sporting versions will continue to use petrol motors, top-of-the-range models in the line-up are to be powered by the torquey six-cylinder oil-burner.
Before the next-generation Vauxhall goes on sale in the UK in the spring of 2008, however, another pre-production concept will appear at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Expected to be even closer to the final showroom model, the car to be unveiled in Germany is likely to have a conventional four-door body. See the next issue of Auto Express for more revealing pictures and full details of the Vectra's successor.
