Circular air vents and centre console display help cabin to stand out
13th March 2007
Taking pride of place on the instrument binnacle is a large central speedometer, which is mirrored by twin air vents on top of the facia and a digital read-out on the centre console. Materials are also top quality, with neat black trim and silver inserts on the steering wheel.
The gearlever is mounted high on the centre console, freeing up floor space where there's a handy tray that's big enough for a small bag. And because the car's shoulder line slopes down to the A-pillar, visibility will be excellent.
There's lots of clever storage as well, with a rack-style holder on the glovebox ideal for road maps. The boot provides a useful 250 litres of load space, which can be increased thanks to the 60:40 split-folding rear seats. Under the skin, the Mazda shares its platform with the next-generation Ford Fiesta, and promises excellent driving dynamics.
Power comes from a range of new 1.3 and 1.5-litre petrol engines. The 2 arrives in showrooms in the autumn, priced around £9,000.
