Hi-tech kit lets van drivers load better

It's small, but it could stop a big danger - overloaded vehicles.

The VanWeigh allows drivers to use the full payload of their pick-up or van without breaking the law. The set-up measures suspension movement relative to the ground, and when 80 per cent of the gross weight is reached, a buzzer sounds through the dash-mounted unit. This turns to a constant tone if the limit is exceeded.

Maker PM Onboard says the kit will not only boost safety, but also cut costs, as suspension, tyres and engine are spared abuse. Prices will be announced when the VanWeigh is launched next month.
