The next-generation family model looks set to be a strong contender in the estate class by providing a huge load area. It shares its underpinnings with the Peugeot 407, but while that estate has a curved rear hatch, the Citroen has a near vertical rear screen to optimise space.
The C5 will also do without the stylish tapering roofline of the 407 SW, which would compromise load capacity, although a discreet rear spoiler is visible at the back.
The firm's latest self-levelling Hydractive 4 set-up, which will allow owners to raise and lower the load height using a button in the boot, will be fitted. And the interior and exterior styling will preview a new direction for future Citroens, with a fresh grille at the front and a curvy dashboard inside.
The new saloon will debut at the
Frankfurt Motor Show in September before coming to the UK early next year. The estate version is expected at the
Geneva Motor Show next March, and will arrive in showrooms around six months after the saloon. Prices for the load-lugger are expected to start at around £17,000.
