BMW has confirmed that the new 4.0-litre V8 in its M3 will develop 414bhp – exactly the same power output as Audi’s RS4.
The fresh unit produces 400Nm of torque and revs to 8,300rpm – at which point it’s gulping 400 litres of air per second! The new powerplant has a block made from aluminium and, at 202kg, is nearly 10 per cent lighter than the 3.2-litre straight-six found in the previous M3.
