Sensors listen in to improve safety
Listen to this!
Scientists have developed new audio sensors that hear car crashes and determine how serious they are as they happen. The Siemens VDO Crash Impact Sound Sensor (CISS) pinpoints the location and severity of an accident to fire an airbag up to 15 milliseconds faster then traditional systems. It picks up vibrations from the deformation of the chassis and crumple zones.
