British firm cleaning up NYC cabs

At the New York motor show, British engineering company Ricardo announced plans to turn New York’s famous yellow taxis green!

It revealed a new micro hybrid system, which can be retro-fitted to the Lincoln-built cab to ensure that the engine switches off when the car is stationary in heavy traffic. If the technology was applied to all the taxis on the city’s streets, Ricardo estimates it could save nearly 10 million gallons of fuel every year.
