Sat-nav off to a flier

The Blackbird's the latest nav system to hit the accessory shops, and the first portable sat-nav from electronics specialist Alpine

A huge memory is included, loaded with maps of western European countries and more than a million points of interest (POI). It won’t be hard to see the route, either, as the 3.6-inch digital LCD touchscreen has anti-glare technology, so it’s easy to read. For an even larger display, the unit can be linked to an Alpine monitor.

According to the manufacturer, the device also alerts drivers through voice instructions to roadworks or accidents ahead, and even shows congestion levels along the route. What’s more, it comes with all the extras you’ll need to start: a cigar-lighter power adaptor, carry case and wiping cloth, PC mini-USB cable, replaceable lithium battery, owner’s manual and quick reference guide.

Alpine Blackbird sat-nav, price: £399, buy from: 0870 333 3761, www.alpine-europe.com
