A new hybrid powertrain, which uses a three-cylinder petrol engine mated to an electric motor, is being developed by Lotus Engineering.
Scientists from the Norfolk firm are working with technology expert Siemens VDO. The aim is to develop a system that mainstream car makers can use to build their own low-emissions vehicles.
