The 2.0-litre dCi is likely to account for a quarter of all sales of the Qashqai, which will make it the most popular engine in the line-up, with prices from £16,249 to £21,949.
The unit, developed with Nissan's partner Renault, delivers 150hp and 320Nm of torque, plus 42.8mpg fuel economy. Both a manual gearbox and a six-speed automatic will be available.
Nissan's UK plant is now building 700 Qashqais daily, with exports to countries including Japan, Australia and South Africa.
