Disguised Vectra was spied pulling a trailer as engineers put brakes to the test

They were taken during brake testing in France. Look closely, and you'll see a rear hitch is attached. This is hooked up to a bulky trailer, which lets engineers see how the anchors perform in extreme circumstances.
Despite wearing a heavy disguise, it's clear the new Vectra has a sleek yet chunky shape, just like the GTC concept - which was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March and driven by Auto Express in Issue 958.
Behind the black plastic cladding lies a distinctive nose with a bold new grille and angular headlights. The rising waistline gives a sporty profile, while flared wheelarches and a tapered tail lend some more athleticism.
Much bigger than its predecessor, the new Vectra will be similar in size to Ford's latest Mondeo - itself only 60mm shorter than BMW's 5-Series - so there will be much more space inside for passengers and their luggage. The cabin will also be inspired by the GTC, with a dashboard that features red-backlit instrument dials.
Under the bonnet, there will be a choice of petrol and diesel engines. Topping the range will be a twin-turbo 2.8-litre V6 which is mated to an all-new four-wheel-drive system.
The five-door seen here will go on sale in 2008 alongside salÂoon and estate variants. And the company will give buyers a glimpse of the four-door Vectra in the shape of a concept at September's Frankfurt Motor Show.
