The breakdown group says Britain's roads are in a worse state now than they were in the Seventies, and quick fixes are to blame. A spokesman for the AA said: "There can be no glossing over the underlying decay, which is down to a patch-and-mend approach. Potholes aren't properly repaired, so they come back."
