The popularity of air-con saw manufacturers axe the feature from many cars, as there was no need for the cooling it provides. But now, panoramic glass-tops are proving a hit as they give interiors a more spacious feel.
Models such as the Renault Espace have openings that take up much of the roof. The latest arrival will be the VW Golf Estate, launched this summer with a £795 two-section sunroof.
The Mercedes R-Class and Citroen C4 Picasso also have similar features, with fixed glass tops or larger windscreens. These save makers the cost of engineering an opening mechanism.
