Hire car firm puts the finger on thieves

Customers could be forgiven for being all fingers and thumbs when they rent a motor from Europcar

In an effort to counter vehicle theft, the hire firm is asking all drivers to leave a fingerprint impression on an inkless gel pad. Encouraged by police, the scheme has been trialled over the past year at the company's office at Stansted Airport in Essex. Now judged to be a success, it has been given the green light to roll out at its 130 UK sites.
