The combination of the 173bhp 2.2 HDi diesel engine and the self-shifting transmission has already been seen on the C6 luxury car, and bosses believe its performance, refinement and economy will appeal on the family hatch and estate line-up, too. The drivetrain propels the C5 from 0-60mph in 9.5 seconds, and on to a 138mph top speed, yet promises fuel returns of 39mpg. Prices range from £18,840 for the VTX+ Auto hatchback to £24,445 for the flagship Exclusive Auto load-lugger.
