The line-up includes a host of fresh features, incorporating powerful new diesel engines and the option of four-wheel drive. The 9-3 gets a striking chrome grille and swept-back headlamps, while a revamped bumper design also helps set the new car apart from its predecessor. Under the bonnet, buyers will be able to specify a 178bhp 1.9-litre TTiD diesel engine for the first time.
It uses twin turbos to produce 400Nm of torque, while in the saloon it returns 47.9mpg. Improved traction is available with the XWD all-wheel-drive set-up. It will be offered on Aero versions of the saloon and estate. The automated system adjusts the torque delivery between front and rear axles, and customers will even be able to specify a clever electronically controlled limited-slip rear diff. Prices for the line-up, which also includes convertible and green BioPower models, start at £18,575. That will get you an entry-level 1.8-litre Airflow saloon, while the top-spec 1.9 TiDD Aero four-door costs £26,495.
