WILLIAMS has defended Alex Wurz after another poor event. Wurz qualified 18th, while team-mate Nico Rosberg was ninth. “The gaps between them are now a tenth of a second in practice and qualifying,” said technical boss Sam Michael.

THE GP2 support race was marred by crashes. Team-mates Timo Glock and Andreas Zuber ran into each other at the start. Then Ernesto Viso ran over Michael Ammermuller’s car and ended up on the wrong side of the barriers. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.
