Cleaner rubs out cabin grime

Add water to the Magic Eraser and you're ready to clean...

15th July 2007

The Magic Eraser is a trim cleaner that looks just like a long sponge. It is claimed to work simply by adding water, so to see how effective it is, we spread chocolate, dried juice and grease on a dashboard and then set to work.

First, you simply cut the long block down to the size you require, then soak it with water and wipe the trim – no need for detergent. We found that the Magic Eraser did remove quite a lot of the dirt, but we had to work hard to lift more stubborn stains. However, once you have soaked up the grime, you can wring, rinse and dry, which means you can use each piece more than once. As a bonus, the Magic Eraser didn’t mark our test dash, either.

In a head-to-head test with the winner of Auto Express’s Product Honours 2007, Comma Interior Cleaner, the JML product came off second best as its competitor did a much better job of removing the stains. Although the Magic Eraser did eradicate the dirt eventually, it took a little bit more effort and time to do so.
