Derived from Jaguar's supercharged XJ, the long-wheelbase Daimler Super8 will be the second car of its type to use the all-aluminium chassis of the Coventry firm's top saloon.
However, this limousine not only gets the new-look front bumper and revised wings of the recently facelifted Jag, but also distinctive air vents on the flanks and indicators in the door mirrors. Unique alloy wheels have been added, while the automatic aerial - which rose out of the rear wing every time the radio was turned on - has finally been replaced by a neat roof-mounted receiver.
Buyers will be encouraged to personalise their cabin with a range of leather trim combinations, plus extra-thick lambswool carpets. LCD screens mounted in the front seat headrests and extra-large rear chairs are just a few of the many options expected.
The 4.2-litre supercharged V8 will propel the Super8 from 0-60mph in 5.0 seconds, and on to a top speed of 155mph. Prices for the model are likely to start at around £80,000, and all vehicles will be sold through Jaguar's existing dealer network.
But the new Daimler is not the only car from Coventry to be attracting the attention of the brand's stylists. Jaguar's entry-level X-Type also benefits from a facelift, and gets a revised nose and new rear bumper.
The changes are designed to bring the firm's BMW 3-Series rival into line with the rest of its recently refreshed models. Mechanical alterations have been kept to a minimum, and the car is expected to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
