Kids' eco racers go the distance

Fuel-efficient cars designed by school children are miles better than anything on sale in dealer forecourts

Green entries into the latest Shell Eco-Marathon managed to achieve consumption figures in the thousands. Kids as young as 11 years old took part in the race, but the best British entry was from Bath University's Team Green. Its car recorded an astonishing figure of just under 6,000mpg at the Rockingham circuit, Northants, last week.
