Peugeot 207

Peugeot estate to get GTi badge

Peugeot has announced that its 207 SW estate will be available as a GTi

Practical SW version of Peugeot’s popular 207 will wear the
performance badge for first time

By James Disdale

20th July 2007

The last estate to get the tag was the seven-seat 505 GTi, which the company stopped building in 1992. The new 207 model will get the same 175bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged engine as the three-door.
Performance should be strong, with the 0-60mph sprint taking 7.5 seconds, and a top speed of 130mph. To cope with the extra power, the suspension will be stiffened and steering reworked for better feedback.

On the outside, the GTi will feature the deep front bumper, side skirts and twin exhaust of the hatch, plus a roof-mounted rear spoiler. To finish off the sporty look, there are 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with wide, low-profile tyres. Heavily bolstered sports seats will be added to the cabin, as well as a chunky three-spoke leather steering wheel and alloy pedals.

Practicality won’t be forgotten, though, as owners will have the same split opening tailgate and 1,433 litres of luggage space as lower-spec versions. Safety will also be a priority, with both stability control and Peugeot’s Steering Stability Programme as standard. The latter automatically adjusts the front wheels to maintain straight-line stopping on mixed grip surfaces.

There are also six airbags, ABS and electronic brake assist. A launch date has yet to be set, but the SW GTi should cost just under £16,000 when it hits showrooms by the New Year.
