Just as Skoda was releasing pictures of the Fabia Estate, it was also recalling the five-door model and Roomster MPV due to a curtain airbag problem. The callback is due to a potential wiring fault that could cause the wrong bag to trigger in an accident.

NEW CAR sales are on the up, with diesels performing best and now comprising 40 per cent of the market. The latest figures from the SMMT show a 6.6 per cent jump in oil-burner sales since January. Overall, the number of new cars bought has climbed to 1,443,576 in the first six months of 2007 – a 2.6 per cent increase over last year.
