NEW CAR sales are on the up, with diesels performing best and now comprising 40 per cent of the market. The latest figures from the SMMT show a 6.6 per cent jump in oil-burner sales since January. Overall, the number of new cars bought has climbed to 1,443,576 in the first six months of 2007 – a 2.6 per cent increase over last year.
