Touring car top guns Jason Plato and Fabrizio Giovanardi go head-to-head at Knockhill as the duel for this year’s Dunlop British Touring Car Championship crown reaches fever pitch in Fife on Sunday.
Four points now separate the two title contenders, and with only the Thruxton finale in Hampshire to follow, both drivers know there’s no margin for error.
Having won twice last time at Brands Hatch in Kent, Giovanardi has the momentum behind him, and the Vauxhall ace is in a confident mood. “I’m happy, as the situation is coming good,” said the Italian. “I have respect for Jason, and he has won a lot in Britain, but I’m not scared to fight with him on the track.”
However, Giovanardi’s title challenge hasn’t been without controversy. At Brands Hatch, he was fined £500 and had three penalty points applied to his competition licence following a collision with the Honda of Mike Jordan.
Defending champion Matt Neal was also in the wars at Brands. His Honda Civic was wrecked in a 10-car shunt, and Team Dynamics has been working around the clock to build a new car in time for Knockhill. Catch the action live on ITV4 at 12.30 and on ITV1 at 14.45.
