These are just some of the insects responsible for more than half-a-million car crashes in the UK.

Bugs were voted the second biggest summer driving distraction in research by insurer esure.com, with motorists polled admitting to slamming on the brakes and taking their hands off the wheel to swat creepy crawlies. The firm suggests fitting mosquito-style nets to open windows to keep insects at bay.
