It’s official – check out the all-new Mercedes C-Class Estate. Our spy photographers have tracked the progress of the company’s latest load-lugger, but we can now reveal exactly how the executive model will look.
And while the Estate makes its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week, we already have the full lowdown on the long-awaited Merc.
The sleek C-Class looks just like the saloon from the front, but has an extended roofline and upright tailgate. That boosts load space to 485 litres, or an impressive 1,500 litres with the rear seats folded. Bosses claim that’s enough to put its premium rivals in the shade, and it’s 146 litres up on the outgoing car.
Practical touches include a variety of hooks, anchor points and stowage compartments, while luggage nets and even a collapsible shopping crate are all fitted. A powered tailgate is offered on the options list.
With Mercedes’ Agility Control package as standard, the C-Class fea-tures shock absorbers that automatically adapt to suit the road conditions. Customers can also specify optional self-levelling rear suspension.
The hot AMG-tuned version gets an even more focused set-up, with shorter springs and firmer shock absorbers. It also comes with 17-inch alloys and rides 15mm lower than lesser models. As with the saloon, the estate will get two front ends. While SE and Elegance models feature a traditional grille, the Sport variant gets a more aggressive look.
Petrol and diesel powerplants are shared with the four-door version, and after its debut at Frankfurt, the model will go on sale next summer. Prices are not yet confirmed, but expect a £1,000 premium over the saloon, so entry-level cars should start at around £24,000.
