Got a caravan? Then the Ford Mondeo estate is the best car to tow it with!
This year Auto Express road tester Lesley Harris was part of the judging panel that picked the winners of the Caravan Club 2008 Towcar of the Year awards.
A gruelling test at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire saw 36 contenders tow their way through a series of tests and trials. The final decision came down to the wire, but in the end, the Mondeo Estate’s all-round abilities allowed it to edge ahead of Skoda’s load-lugging Octavia Scout.
The Mondeo Titanium X Estate scooped the top spot in addition to its £25,000-£32,000 category win. In the less than £16,000 section, the Skoda Roomster Scout 1.9 TDI took the honours, while the £25,000-£32,000 ranking was headed by the Ford Mondeo Zetec five-door hatch.
In the £20,000-£25,000 under 1,800kg all-wheel drive category, the Skoda Octavia Scout TDI scooped victory, and the over £32,000 section was won by the Land Rover Freelander 2. Finally, the 1,800kg-plus all-wheel drive category was handed to Kia’s Sorento.
