This new Black & Decker will not only get your car going when the battery is flat, but also revive all sorts of kit, from your phone to your MP3 player.
In jump-start mode, the BDV012 simply clamps on to the battery terminals, and fires up most engines. Yet it also recharges any equipment that plugs into a standard three-pin socket thanks to the built-in inverter, which converts 12V to mains power.
We hooked up a laptop, MP3 player, mobile phone and mini multimedia player, and all ran without problems. You can even use the Jump Starter in the dark, as there are three built-in LEDs – handy in a badly lit boot. It’s more than capable of firing up most cars with dead batteries, and we liked the wrong-connection warning buzzer. The leads and clamps are well insulated and, thanks to the power isolator, there is little risk of sparks when connecting it to the battery.
Recharging the unit itself is simple, as it can link to the cigar lighter socket or the mains.
