It’s a TV smash hit for Renault. The French firm is so proud of its safety record that it has produced an advert full of spectacular crashes.

In the 90-second sequence, the cars demonstrate their strength in a series of incredible stunts. Eight models are included, each of which has a maximum five-star rating from Euro NCAP. Set to classical music, the display of precision driving ends in a stunning mid-air collision between Modus and Clio superminis.

At the moment, the clip is only being screened in Germany, but it has found its way on to video sharing website YouTube. Meanwhile, Renault is also keen to demonstrate its green credentials. At last week’s Challenge Bibendum environmental show in Shanghai, China, it revealed the eco2 concept. Based on the firm’s budget Dacia Logan, it produces 97g/km of CO2 and returns 74mpg. This figure has been achieved with a special 80bhp 1.5-litre diesel, taller gear ratios, low-rolling-resistance tyres and an aerodynamic bodykit.
