In an attempt to persuade buyers to give its rotary-engined RX-8 a spin, Mazda has added a new optional sports pack to the range.
It costs £350 and comprises lowered sports suspension, 10-spoke 18-inch alloys and body-coloured side skirts. The upgrade also includes an eyecatching silver fuel cap and bold RX-8 graphics.
Available on both the 189bhp and 228bhp versions of the four-seater coupé, all of these extras would normally cost £1,700 if they were specified individually.
The company is also planning to introduce an eco-friendly people carrier. Called the 5 Hydrogen Hybrid RE, it’s set to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show. The compact MPV is normally powered by four-cylinder petrol or diesel units, but the special model uses a rotary engine fuelled by hydrogen to produce electricity. This then powers an on-board motor that provides drive to the rear wheels.
