Franchitti makes his stock car debut

Dario Franchitti’s move to stock cars began with a warm-up race in the second-tier ARCA series at the Talladega Superspeedway, Alabama.

The Scot has agreed a deal with Chip Ganassi Racing to race alongside Juan Pablo Montoya in next year’s NASCAR series. In the meantime, he is cutting his teeth in lesser events. “It was a great learning experience,” he said, after finishing 17th. Ex-F1 star Scott Speed also debuted, and was seventh.
