Trucker sat-nav has officially gone live! Digital map maker Navteq has launched its brand new database that helps HGV drivers avoid lorry-jamming obstacles.

Earlier this year, we helped it plot some of the low bridges and width-restricted roads that trap large vehicles and cause chaos for motorists.

The firm employed dozens of field engineers to meticulously log the key features of hundreds of miles of UK roads. These include physical, legal and hazardous materials restrictions – such as the transportation of inflammable goods. There’s also information about steep hills and sharp bends, plus points of interest, like truck stops and fuel stations.

Navteq Transport will help heavy, high or long vehicle drivers to navigate trouble-free across Britain. But it could also be useful for motorists planning to tow a trailer or drive a caravan or motorhome.

Navteq is one of the world’s biggest creators of digital maps, and supplies software to 90 per cent of the original equipment sat-nav systems used by dozens of car makers.
