British driver Mark Higgins is still in with a chance of winning the Production Car World Rally Championship after the exclusion of Armindo Araujo.

The Japanese driver who finished second in the Production Car World Rally Championship last weekend in Japan, was excluded from the classification after scrutineers discovered a technical irregularity in his Mitsubishi Lancer after the event.

The classification elevates Leszek Kuzaj to second and now earns Mark Higgins one additional point, which is enough to keep his championship hopes going into the final two rounds in Ireland and Rally GB.

Meanwhile, motorsport fans will be disappointed to learn that Valentino Rossi has scrapped his plans to contest this year's Wales Rally GB at the request of his Yamaha MotoGP team.

The Italian was set to compete in the rally in a Prodrive backed Subaru Impreza in November, but Auto Express has learnt that Yamaha boss Masao Furasawa has requested that Rossi attends the final MotoGP test of the year at Jerez instead.

Rossi has competed in Rally GB once before in a Peugeot 206 WRC rally car but crashed out on the first forest stage of the rally.
