Having taken on Land Rover with its Santa Fe and Ford with its i30 hatch, Hyundai plans to eclipse the Nissan 350Z with an all-new rear-wheel-drive coupé.

Concept Genesis Coupé to be unveiled at LA Show
10th November 2007
The firm has released a drawing of its radical Concept Genesis Coupé, and will pull the wraps off the real thing at next week’s Los Angeles Motor Show in the US.
It will be powered by a 300bhp 3.6-litre V8 linked to a six-speed manual transmission. The car was created at Hyundai’s US design facility in California, and the Korean giant plans to challenge the likes of Ford’s Mustang, as well as the Nissan. While the mix of performance and style is certain to appeal to British buyers, a spokesman for Hyundai UK said: “We’ll assess the feedback from the US launch, and if we think there’s a market for it here, we’ll give it the green light.”
If it gets the nod, the car will sell alongside the current Coupé, which is due for replacement in 2009. However, unlike the Genesis, the smaller model will be front-wheel drive.
