Ford Fiesta keep its name

Next Fiesta plays the name game

Ford bosses have decided to keep the Fiesta badge for the best-selling supermini after all, we can exclusively reveal.

Forthcoming supermini will keep Fiesta name

14th November 2007

The next-generation model was originally going to be named after the Verve concept on which it’s based. But a blue oval spokesman told us there had been a change of heart. He added: “Why would we choose to lose such a well known brand name after 30 years?”

The wraps came off the Verve at the Frankfurt Motor Show in SeptĀember, and it provided a clear indication of what the next-generation Fiesta will have to offer.

While Ford had hinted that a new name would be introduced to go with the hatchback’s ground-up redesign, top brass at the company have clearly seen the value of their big-selling supermini brand. But while the new model won’t share the show car’s name, Auto Express’s spy shots have already proved that it will adopt many features from the design study. Larger dimensions all-round will make the Fiesta more practical than ever, while Ford insiders are promising a big step forward in interior quality, too.

Buyers will be offered a choice of three and five-door bodystyles when the new Fiesta arrives in dealĀers here in November next year.
