Brit hatch hits 100mpg

Here’s a solution to spiralling pump prices – a fledgling British motor company has created a hatchback capable of 100mpg.

Axon Automotive has steered clear of complicated hybrid technology or alternative fuels in favour of making its 8080 ultra-light and highly aerodynamic.

Extensive use of carbon fibre means the car requires less power to accelerate, while stop-start technology boosts mpg in town. Axon, based in Wellingborough, Northants, claims the model will rival the MINI One for pace. The firm has already developed a modified 131mpg Caterham 7.
