Scenic call-back

Fire risk forces Scenic move

Check your dates if you drive a Renault Scenic. The firm is contacting owners of cars built between January 2000 and October 2001 to fix a potentially dangerous electrical fault.

Renault Scenic
Glitch affects 70,000 first-generation models

02nd December 2007

A statement issued by the French car manufacturer confirmed: “After a thorough investigation, Renault has identified that, in exceptional circumstances, a rare combination of conditions may lead to the overheating of some electrical components in the door mirror switch.”

Owners will be able to take their car to a franchised dealer and get the switch replaced free of charge. The so-called ‘preventative action’ is not officially a recall, but affects around 70,000 vehicles registered in the UK.

Meanwhile, the brand’s Modus supermini-MPV has been recalled to fix a problem with its front headrests. However, only a handful of cars require the safety check, with 76 examples built during October 2004 affected.

For more information on these recalls, or to search the VOSA database for notices issued against your car, log on to the www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp website and enter your vehicle details.

Cars which have had the work carried out are issued with documents to show it has been done, so when you are looking at a second-hand vehicle, check that the service history tallys with the online data.
