Streetwise on comeback trail

China-owned MG unveils its version of Rover Streetwise

MG 3

29th November 2007

Reborn MG is getting Streetwise – in China! The firm has unveiled its version of the jacked-up Rover Streetwise, and it’s set to join the existing line-up of TF roadster and 7 saloon.

Called the MG 3, the new model debuted last week at the Guangzhou Auto Show. As you can see, the shape of the crossover model hasn’t changed much, and its Rover 25 underpinnings are obvious. Even though it offered no off-road ability, the Streetwise enjoyed reasonable sales success in the UK, thanks to its neat SUV-inspired styling.

Black plastic bumpers front and rear provide it with a similar look
to the Audi Allroad, and this trim extends to the wheelarches and side sills. Roof rails and silver skid plates complete the makeover.

While the TF is expected to go on sale in the UK in the spring, buyers face an uncertain wait for the full MG range to appear. The marque’s Chinese owner, NAC, has yet to confirm whether the 3 will come here.
